Randy Newberg, Hunter explains how simple things such as target color can alter the accuracy of your range finder. White reflects a stronger signal back to your range finder, making lower end range finders think the object is closer. On those same low-end range finders, dark colors absorb light resulting in a weaker signal.
A good range finder will adjust for this fact. Many do not. Make sure you know what your range finder reads in bright light compared to low light, and when targeting a light-colored object compared to a dark-colored object.
This is an easy experiment you can do in your back yard. Don’t wait and find out the hard way that your range finder is not built to accommodate differences in target color or light intensity.
