Forty-two teams of 9th to 12th students from across New York recently gathered to test their knowledge of natural resources science at the 2023 New York State Envirothon. The five-student squads took part in a series of field tests about wildlife, ecology, forestry and other issues.

“The annual New York State Envirothon Competition is a critical part of environmental and agricultural education in our state. With the impacts of climate change becoming ever more real, it has never been more inspiring to see these passionate young people preparing to be ambassadors for the environment and our state’s natural resources in years to come,” Richard A. Ball, New York state agriculture commissioner, told Morning AgClips.

A team from Mount Academy in Ulster County took first place and will represent New York at an international competition this summer in New Brunswick, Canada.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is one of nearly two dozen organizations or individuals that sponsored the 2023 competition.
